Before I started our mentoring sessions, I could not understand why I had not been able to get past the first round of interviews. [She] started asking me questions about myself to get to know me. She asked me what things was I good at doing and what I knew about the industry. She even shared her journey with me, which was inspiring.
I soon realized, I didn’t have a clear path or understanding of what I really wanted to do. I wasn’t intentional about the role I was seeking. After she reviewed my resume and provided constructive feedback, things began to change. I realized the importance of “Don’t put anything on your resume that you can’t speak to”. Just even some of the smaller things like changing certain words, and adding other key terms, highlighting my skills and experience to help me stand out.
